Learning to Play the Guitar is Easier than You Think

play the guitarI love playing the guitar and I’ve been playing it for over 10 years. Today I mostly do it for fun but I was in a band or two during my high school years. Learning to the play the guitar is actually not as hard as most people think. I remember when I played when sitting with friends they all really appreciated how I was able to sit and learn how to play the guitar by myself without taking any lessons. I guess I had a good ear and I was just listening to music and than trying to get the same notes and sounds from my guitar. It wasn’t easy at the beginning but as time passed and the more I tried it became much easier.

When I see how easy it is to learn to play the guitar today with all the information that is out there on the internet, I’m really surprised to hear when people I know say that they wish they could play the guitar but it is hard and they will never really be able to do that. If I had access to all the YouTube videos and all the great blogs that cover everything that has to do with guitar lessons I know I could have been a rockstar today :)

Make a Decision

Just like anything else in life, learning to play the guitar starts by making a decision. A real decision. Once you do that you set yourself on the path that at the end of it you will be sitting and playing the guitar like a rockstar or more likely like a pretty decent guitar player which isn’t bad at all.

After you make your decision it is pretty easy to get started. You can either go with learning by yourself from watching videos online or by taking actual guitar lessons from someone that know how to play the guitar, but more importantly, knows how to teach others how to play it.

I would recommend you try to get the hang of it on your own at first and see how it goes. It is easier since you can do it at your own free time as all the information is available for you online. If the self learning route doesn’t work well you can always go with private lessons and you will also get to them with some basic knowledge thanks to the stuff you watched and learned online.

I really can’t remember the world before YouTube. It is without a doubt one of the biggest changes that happened to the internet in the 2000′s and when it comes to learning how to play the guitar it is like a goldmine. Among other things YouTube is a perfect platform for learning new skills.

YouTube is filled with videos that will teach you how to get started playing the guitar and most of them are pretty good. This is a great video series to get started with:

Feel free to search YouTube and you will find hundreds of videos that will help you play the guitar.

Aside from YouTube there are a plenty of sites that were created for the soul purpose of helping people learn how to play the guitar. You can simply search Google and you will find more sites than you can handle.

To make life easier for you I would recommend you check out GuitarLessons.com as they seem to be the most comprehensive site on the topic and they cover everything you need to know with videos and more importantly, it is all free to watch and learn.

Bottom Line

My friend, if you really want to learn the guitar (or anything else for that matter) than all you need to do is make a decision instead of excuses. Learning to play the guitar has never been easier than it is today with all the free and very high quality sources you have online.

So get started. It’s easier than you think. I promise :)

After I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and now
each time a comment is added I receive 4 emails
with the exact same comment. Perhaps there is a way you can remove me
from that service? Thanks a lot!
